U.S. Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, a Democrat from Florida, has been indicted by a Miami grand jury on multiple charges including the alleged theft of $5 million in federal disaster funds from FEMA. The indictment outlines accusations of directing these funds to her campaign account, as well as making illegal campaign contributions. Cherfilus-McCormick faces up to 53 years in prison if convicted on these federal fraud charges. The Department of Justice has emphasized that no one is above the law as the investigation continues.
