Officials have confirmed multiple cases of the flesh-eating New World screwworm in wildlife across Texas and New Mexico, raising alarm over potential outbreaks. The USDA has reported that the first cases in U.S. wildlife were detected in elk in Texas, with additional cases confirmed in beef cows in New Mexico and multiple locations in Grant County. As the screwworm spreads, local officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases.
