Major Surf Brands File for Bankruptcy, Closing Hundreds of Stores
Quiksilver, Billabong, and Volcom, once staple brands in the surf and skate apparel market, are closing all of their U.S. stores following a bankruptcy filing by their operator, Liberated Brands. Nearly 1,400 employees are set to be laid off as part of the restructuring, which will affect around 120 retail locations across the country. This significant downturn is attributed to various factors, including the rise of fast fashion and the ongoing challenges faced by traditional retail in maintaining relevance. The closures mark a pivotal shift in the surfing retail landscape, raising concerns about the future of iconic brands that have long defined beach culture.
