US Home Sales Plummet to Multi-Decade Lows in September

The housing market has seen a significant decline in home sales, with existing home sales dropping to the lowest level since 2010 and reaching a 14-year low in September. The ongoing issues of high mortgage rates and buyer hesitation, amplified by uncertainty surrounding the upcoming election, have contributed to this downturn. Reports indicate that home sales are on track for the worst year since 1995, with sales slowing to the weakest annual pace in nearly 14 years despite some easing in mortgage rates and a slight increase in available housing stock. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) noted a decrease in existing-home sales to an annualized rate of 3.84 million, marking a new cycle low. Overall, the current market conditions reflect a sharp decline in home purchase demand as buyers are increasingly deterred by elevated prices and economic uncertainties.
