Recent operations by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have resulted in the seizure of nearly 850 pounds of khat, a stimulant, from travelers at Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). The large-scale bust involved multiple suitcases and followed a pattern of similar seizures at the airport. Notably, two travelers were caught with significant amounts of khat after arriving on a flight from London. Additional efforts at Dulles Airport led to the arrest of a New York man after authorities found nearly 400 pounds of the drug. These incidents underscore the serious trafficking of khat, which is considered a federal crime in the U.S. CBP officials have urged travelers to be aware of the legal implications surrounding khat, emphasizing a collective response to combat drug smuggling.
