Purdue Pharma and Sackler Family Reach Historic $7.4 Billion Opioid Settlement
In a landmark agreement, Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family have reached a settlement valued at $7.4 billion related to the opioid crisis, gaining support from all 50 U.S. states and territories. Attorneys General from various states, including Alabama and Indiana, have signed on to this settlement, which aims to provide substantial funds for opioid treatment and recovery efforts. The settlement notably bars the Sackler family from the U.S. opioid market and ends Purdue Pharma’s control over its operations. States are set to receive significant financial allocations from the settlement, with Pennsylvania anticipated to receive up to $200 million, while Ohio is slated for nearly $200 million. Other states, such as Virginia, Utah, and Maryland, are also expected to benefit from this agreement, which marks a monumental step in addressing the opioid epidemic.
