Europe and the US Discuss Troop Deployment and Security Guarantees for Ukraine

European leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, have confirmed that detailed plans are being drawn up to send troops to Ukraine as part of ongoing efforts to establish peace and security in the region following the conflict. Discussions about the scale of troop deployment have seen estimates reduced from 30,000 to between 6,000 and 10,000. Meanwhile, former President Trump is reportedly in talks about deploying private military companies, indicating a preference for private forces over US troops in the region. The US has expressed its readiness to support European peacekeeping missions and provide air and intelligence assistance. While Western allies are working on security guarantees for Ukraine, challenges remain, particularly regarding Russia’s willingness to accept these measures.
