Egypt Enforces Early Closures Amid Deepening Energy Crisis
As Egypt grapples with a worsening energy crisis driven by rising fuel costs linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran, the government has implemented emergency measures including early closing hours for shops and restaurants. Establishments are now required to shut down by 9 PM, and partial remote work has been mandated for government and private sectors aimed at reducing electricity consumption. The energy crisis has led to soaring fuel bills, affecting businesses and residents alike, particularly in major cities like Cairo. While the government assures that tourists will remain unaffected by these measures, the nightlife in urban areas has significantly dimmed as a result of the curfews. Luxor has been exempted from these new regulations, allowing tourist activities to continue. The government is also intensifying efforts to ensure a stable supply of basic goods amidst the crisis.
