Amazon Reaches $2.5 Billion Settlement Over Prime Subscription Claims
Amazon has agreed to pay a historic $2.5 billion to settle allegations from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that it misled customers into signing up for its Prime membership. The settlement addresses claims that Amazon allegedly employed deceptive practices, making it difficult for users to cancel their subscriptions. As part of the settlement, Amazon will refund $1.5 billion to affected customers. A trial was set to determine whether Amazon illegally tricked users into paying for Prime, but this settlement resolves those claims. This marks one of the largest settlements in FTC history related to subscription services.
