The International Energy Agency (IEA) has issued alarming warnings regarding the ongoing energy crisis triggered by the Iran war, describing it as the worst energy shock recorded in history. With more than 40 energy assets in the Middle East severely damaged, the global economy faces a significant threat that may surpass the combined impact of the 1970s oil shocks and the fallout from the Ukraine conflict. IEA chief Fatih Birol emphasized the urgent need for countries to adopt measures such as working from home and reducing travel to mitigate rising oil prices. He also indicated the possibility of further emergency oil releases as the situation unfolds, suggesting that the energy crunch could continue for six months or longer. As nations brace for a prolonged crisis, the IEA has proposed strategies reminiscent of those used during the COVID-19 pandemic to alleviate pressure on consumers and stabilize the market.
