MacKenzie Scott Donates Over $700 Million to Historically Black Colleges and Universities
In a remarkable display of philanthropy, MacKenzie Scott has recently donated more than $700 million to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), marking one of the largest contributions to these institutions in history. Her donations include significant gifts of $63 million to both North Carolina A&T and Prairie View A&M University, as well as $50 million to Bowie State University and substantial amounts to other schools like Philander Smith University and Norfolk State. This wave of generosity is inspired by her own experiences facing financial challenges in college, particularly a $1,000 loan from a roommate that prevented her from dropping out. As a result of her giving spree, Scott has now contributed over $19 billion to various charitable causes, focusing on uplifting communities through education.
