Hong Kong Welcomes New Giant Panda Pair Amid Hopes to Boost Tourism

Hong Kong has officially welcomed a new pair of giant pandas, An An and Ke Ke, gifted by Beijing as part of the celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of communist China. The arrival of the pandas, which will be housed at Ocean Park, brings the city's total number of resident giant pandas to its highest ever. The community is invited to participate in a naming contest for the new additions to their habitat, with hopes that these adorable creatures will attract more tourists and invigorate the local economy. A VIP welcome ceremony was held, and a farewell party took place in Sichuan prior to their departure. The Jockey Club has also pledged over HK$121 million to enhance the pandas' habitat.
