Major Changes Expected in Medicare Advantage Plans for 2026

As 2026 approaches, several U.S. health insurers, including UnitedHealth, Humana, and Aetna, are significantly scaling back their Medicare Advantage operations, impacting coverage for millions of beneficiaries. UnitedHealth will exit its Medicare Advantage plans in 109 counties, affecting around 600,000 members, while other insurers are also discontinuing various plans, particularly in states like New Hampshire. Premiums for Medicare Advantage are anticipated to slightly decline, but the overall choice and availability of plans may diminish, leading to concerns about healthcare access for seniors. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has noted that while Medicare Advantage and Part D programs are expected to remain stable, enrollment is likely to fall as many insurers withdraw from unprofitable markets. Beneficiaries are urged to stay informed about these changes as the annual enrollment period approaches.
