Super Typhoon Ragasa Leaves Destruction Across East Asia
Super Typhoon Ragasa, the strongest storm of the year, has wreaked havoc across East Asia, with significant impacts felt in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China. The storm has resulted in at least 14 deaths in Taiwan, with 124 individuals reported missing after a barrier lake burst. As the typhoon approached, nearly two million people were evacuated in southern China, where schools and flights were canceled in anticipation of the storm. Hong Kong experienced hurricane-force winds of up to 177 mph, causing the city to shut down and flights to be canceled. Experts predict extensive building repairs and significant economic repercussions as the storm continues to batter the region. The situation remains critical as Ragasa moves towards the China coast after devastating areas in the Philippines and Taiwan.
