DHS Shutdown Imminent as Funding Talks Stall

A partial government shutdown is becoming increasingly likely as lawmakers depart Washington without a funding agreement for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). With much of the DHS set to run out of money after midnight, officials are warning travelers to prepare for potential delays, particularly at airports under the oversight of the TSA. Senator John Fetterman was the only Democrat to support the funding bill, although lawmakers on both sides of the aisle remain at an impasse over proposed reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite efforts from Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and the White House to negotiate a deal, disagreements persist, pushing the DHS towards a shutdown with no end in sight. DHS officials have expressed concern about the impact on employees and operations, including potential pay delays for the Coast Guard and other vital services.
