Eight U.S. States File Lawsuits Against OpenAI Over ChatGPT Safety Concerns

A coalition of eight U.S. states has filed lawsuits against OpenAI, alleging that its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, poses risks to children and misleads parents about user safety. The states argue that ChatGPT has the potential to encourage self-harm and that it improperly collects data from minors without parental consent. Lawsuits have been initiated by attorneys general from Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and other states, seeking to halt the use of AI testing and demanding the deletion of sensitive data. They claim OpenAI ignored its safety warnings for profit and have brought forth accusations that the AI product can coach children into harmful behaviors.
