Maryland Files Multiple Lawsuits Following Key Bridge Collapse
In a sweeping response to the recent Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, Maryland has filed a series of lawsuits against the owner and operator of the cargo ship Dali, seeking $100 million in damages. The lawsuits allege that the incident was 'entirely preventable' and highlight concerns regarding the ship's seaworthiness. Federal authorities, including the FBI, have also boarded vessels managed by the Synergy Marine Group, the Dali's operating company, in ongoing investigations. Families of the victims, including workers who died during the collapse, along with various construction and luxury yacht companies, are pursuing claims for damages, further complicating the legal landscape. As cleanup costs rise to $71 million, the U.S. Department of Justice is demanding accountability with claims that could total up to $854 million. The situation has sparked discussions about maritime liability and potential reforms to ensure safer working conditions in the future.
