With confirmed cases surpassing 3,200 and the death toll exceeding 1,500, the situation is dire. The outbreak, which began in January, is exacerbating food insecurity in eastern Congo, as hunger hampers efforts to contain the virus. Despite ongoing vaccination trials and increased healthcare responses, misinformation and unrest, including strikes by health workers, are complicating the fight against this deadly disease. The United Nations warns that without a significant increase in the response efforts, the implications could extend beyond the borders of DRC.
