Federal Investigations Target Over 50 Universities Amid Anti-DEI Initiatives

Numerous colleges and universities across the United States are currently facing federal investigations due to their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. More than 50 institutions are under scrutiny as part of a significant crackdown initiated by the Trump administration, which has led to many universities severing ties with nonprofits that promote diversity, such as The PhD Project. This nonprofit, aimed at boosting Black representation in business academia, has become a focal point in investigations concerning allegations of civil rights violations and racial discrimination. Among the institutions affected, the University of Kentucky and Towson University have made headlines for their decision to cut connections amid allegations of DEI-related misconduct. The Education Department is also probing several universities, including the University of New Mexico and Ohio State University, for purported race-exclusionary practices. As these investigations unfold, concerns are rising regarding the potential impact on opportunities for minority students across academic institutions.
