Severe Winter Weather Causes Widespread Road Closures in Minnesota and Iowa
Travel is heavily discouraged in parts of southern Minnesota and Iowa as a major snowstorm concludes, leaving behind hazardous conditions. The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has shut down sections of I-35 and I-80 due to blizzard conditions, with I-35 closed from Ames to the Minnesota border. In Minnesota, the MnDOT has enacted no travel advisories and closed multiple highways, including a significant stretch of I-90, while rough and messy road conditions persist. Whiteout conditions have led to numerous accidents across Iowa, prompting continued road closures. As efforts to clear the snow progress, officials recommend avoiding travel until conditions improve.
