Madre Fire Grows to Nearly 80,000 Acres, California’s Largest Wildfire This Year
The Madre Fire in San Luis Obispo County, California, has rapidly expanded to nearly 80,000 acres, making it the largest wildfire in the state this year. With only 10% containment reported, the blaze has prompted evacuation notices extending to Kern County as firefighters work in hot and dry conditions. As of now, more than 600 firefighters are actively battling the flames, which have destroyed at least one building and closed significant highways in the area. The fire’s smoke has also led to an air quality advisory in nearby regions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the risk of further wildfires remains elevated statewide.
