American Guns Flooding Mexican Cartels Despite Calls for Crackdown
A significant portion of the weaponry used by Mexican cartels is believed to originate from the United States, with reports indicating that up to 80% of seized weapons are American-made. An estimated 135,000 firearms are trafficked into Mexico annually, many acquired legally in U.S. stores. Despite discussions surrounding stricter enforcement against arms trafficking, smugglers continue to easily transport these weapons across the border. Since assuming office, more than 24,000 illegal firearms have been confiscated, highlighting the ongoing challenge of addressing this illicit trade.
