Thousands of California state workers, represented by SEIU Local 1000, are set to launch a one-day strike in response to unresolved contract negotiations concerning pay, healthcare, and a controversial return-to-office mandate. This strike has raised concerns about potential disruptions to public services, including operations at the DMV, EDD, and state parks. Despite last-minute negotiations, the union has decided to move forward with the strike scheduled for Wednesday. The state administration has attempted to block the strike through legal means, but indications suggest these efforts may fail. The situation reflects growing frustration among state workers over pay cuts and working conditions under Governor Gavin Newsom.
