A severe winter storm has resulted in a catastrophic pileup involving over 100 vehicles on Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County, particularly near Kannapolis. As snow blanketed the area, drivers faced treacherous conditions, leading to numerous collisions and vehicles becoming stranded for hours. The National Guard has been deployed to assist with the cleanup and to help stranded motorists. After a prolonged effort, I-85 has now reopened, but many drivers were left trapped and abandoned due to the adverse weather conditions.
