Longtime U.S. Representative Danny Davis Announces Retirement from Congress
U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, a Democratic congressman from Illinois, has announced that he will not seek reelection after serving nearly three decades in the House. At 83 years old, Davis has decided to retire, endorsing state Rep. La Shawn Ford as his successor. This decision opens the door for at least nine candidates who are waiting in the wings to replace him in the upcoming elections. Davis has spent 15 terms representing the 7th Congressional District and his retirement will leave another House seat open.
