Chinese Nationals Charged with Smuggling Dangerous Biological Pathogen into the U.S.
Two Chinese nationals have been charged with conspiracy and smuggling a dangerous biological pathogen into the United States for their research work at the University of Michigan. The U.S. Department of Justice has accused the couple of attempting to bring in Fusarium graminearum, a fungus known to cause liver damage and associated with agroterrorism threats, through Detroit Metro Airport. Authorities reported that this smuggling attempt posed significant risks, raising concerns about biological safety and security in the country.
