Settlement Reached in Rent-Fixing Lawsuit Involving Largest US Landlord
Greystar, the largest landlord in the United States, has agreed to pay $7 million to settle allegations related to the use of rent-setting algorithms that allegedly inflated rental prices. The settlement comes after multi-state lawsuits from Colorado, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, and several other states accused the company of employing anticompetitive pricing strategies. The Attorney General offices from these states confirmed the multi-state agreement and stated that Greystar will cease the use of AI for rent-setting practices. This case highlights growing concerns over the impact of algorithmic pricing in the housing market and its effects on affordability.
