The Pentagon continues to enhance its hybrid space communications network by onboarding additional firms. Recently, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has tapped 12 more companies to develop a space data transport network and awarded contracts to 14 companies to support their hybrid space architecture initiative. Notable contributions come from SES Space & Defense, which will provide a hybrid architecture, and Capella Space, which will assist in the project under a contract with the DIU. The initiative underscores the importance of integrating commercial technology into military applications, with a pilot planned for 2026. The collaboration aims to accelerate the integration and implementation of commercial space technologies in support of national security, highlighting the critical role of mission integrators in modern military satellite communications.
