U.S. Department of Energy Accelerates Nuclear Reactor and Fuel Initiatives
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced significant advancements in its nuclear energy strategy by selecting 11 firms for a pilot program aimed at fast-tracking the development of small nuclear test reactors. Among the key players identified is Terrestrial Energy, which will participate in both an advanced reactor pilot program and the initial project under a nuclear fuel pilot program designed to reduce reliance on foreign sources, specifically aiming to cut dependency on Russia. Additionally, Standard Nuclear has been selected to kickstart domestic nuclear fuel production, marking a crucial step towards securing the U.S. nuclear supply chain amid growing global energy competition. As this initiative unfolds, the DOE is poised to enhance the nation’s nuclear capabilities by 2026 while addressing geopolitical supply concerns.
