Brookfield Zoo Workers Initiate Strike Over Labor Disputes

More than 100 employees at Brookfield Zoo Chicago have gone on strike due to stalled contract negotiations and complaints regarding unfair labor practices. The workers, represented by the Teamsters union, are demanding better wage and healthcare provisions. While some exhibits at the zoo remain closed, the facility continues to operate for the public. This action follows a series of failed negotiations that left staff with no choice but to authorize a strike. The labor unrest at the zoo coincides with similar actions at Loyola University Chicago, where non-tenure track faculty have also initiated a strike over contract issues.
