Texas Marks 600th Execution with the Death of Inmate Edward Busby
Texas has executed its 600th inmate since the death penalty was reinstated, with Edward Busby put to death for the 2004 murder of a retired professor from TCU. This milestone execution followed a series of legal battles, including a temporary stay granted by the Supreme Court, which was eventually lifted. Busby, who was reported to be intellectually disabled, faced significant scrutiny leading up to his execution. In recognition of this milestone, the Oak Lawn United Methodist Church rang its bell 600 times.
