In a stunning opening game of the AL Division Series, the New York Yankees were defeated 1-0 by the Tampa Bay Rays. Drew Rasmussen nearly achieved a no-hitter, holding the Yankees to just one hit through 8 innings, with Gerrit Cole managing to keep the Rays at bay yet unable to secure a win. The loss was compounded by a costly baserunning blunder from Austin Wells, who, after breaking up the no-hitter, was thrown out at third base, drawing ire from fans and commentators alike. Despite the setback, the Yankees remain hopeful for a turnaround in Game 2.
