State of Emergency Declared in North Carolina as Wildfires Rage
North Carolina is currently facing a state of emergency as wildfires continue to spread across the region, burning nearly 15,000 acres. Crews are battling multiple fires, including the Freedom Farm Fire in Leicester, which has already scorched over 80 acres and remains 0% contained. The Black Cove Complex Fire in Polk County has been designated the highest priority fire in the U.S. due to its rapid expansion. As conditions worsen with dry and windy weather, new evacuation orders have been issued for several areas, including Hayes Cove Road and Swain County. Despite firefighters making progress on some fronts, many blazes remain active, with the threat to homes increasing. Authorities are encouraging residents to prepare and comply with evacuation orders as they monitor the evolving situation.
