Increasing Hoax Bomb Threats Disrupt Indian Airlines, Prompt Government Action
Indian airlines are grappling with a troubling wave of hoax bomb threats that has led to significant disruptions in air travel. In recent incidents, over 100 flights have faced security alerts, with 32 flights receiving threats in a single day. The government is taking measures to combat this issue, including proposing a no-fly list for the individuals responsible for these threats. Aviation Minister Kinjarapu stated that the ministry is treating these threats extremely seriously, while airlines report real financial losses and passenger distress due to the chaos created by these hoaxes. The series of threats has affected flights from major carriers like Air India and IndiGo, forcing emergency landings and diversions, including recent incidents impacting flights bound for destinations such as New York and Chicago. Investigations are underway as authorities trace the origins of these threats, which reportedly connect to IP addresses in international locations. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is actively working on heightened security protocols in response to the escalating crisis.
