Historic Blizzard Causes Widespread Disruption in Massachusetts and Surrounding Areas
A powerful nor’easter has slammed into Massachusetts, bringing more than three feet of snow to some regions and leading to widespread power outages affecting hundreds of thousands of residents. Governor Healey has partially lifted the state of emergency while issuing travel bans in multiple counties, including Martha’s Vineyard, to ensure safety amidst treacherous conditions. Boston University announced it would remain closed following the storm that has been described as the worst the Governor has seen. Thousands of vehicles have been stranded, and local reports indicate over 400 disabled vehicles have been attended to by Massachusetts State Police. With blizzard conditions and hurricane-strength winds reported in places like Wellfleet and Nantucket, the National Guard has been called in to assist with snow removal in heavily impacted towns like New Bedford. As the region begins to dig out, many schools remain closed, and residents are urged to stay off the roads as recovery efforts continue.
