Lufthansa Cuts 20,000 Flights Amid Soaring Jet Fuel Costs

In response to rising fuel prices exacerbated by geopolitical tensions, Lufthansa has announced the cancellation of 20,000 flights for the summer season. The airline’s strategy aims to optimize its flight offerings and manage operating cost pressures as the airline industry faces significant challenges due to the ongoing Iran war and its fallout. As part of this adjustment, Lufthansa will also shutter its CityLine subsidiary early and retire older aircraft models like the Airbus A340 and Boeing 747. This move aligns with a broader trend seen across European airlines that are also implementing cost-cutting measures in light of the jet fuel crisis.
