Pete Hegseth has ordered a realignment of the civilian workforce within the Department of Defense (DOD) and has signed a memo aimed at reducing the workforce size. Approximately 21,000 DOD civilians have volunteered for deferred resignation as part of this initiative. Despite the tightening of the hiring freeze, certain groups, including DOD teachers, child care workers, civilian MEPS, and maintenance workers, have been exempted from these restrictions.
