The head of MI5 has issued a stark warning about the growing number of state threats facing the UK, indicating that the agency is currently dealing with more risks than it did during the Cold War. In particular, concerns have been raised regarding hybrid campaigns from Iran and Russia targeting Britain. The MI5 chief highlighted that Iran is shifting its focus to attacking military sites, emphasizing that a suspected plot at the RAF Fairford airbase is not an isolated incident. This has led UK officials, including the Prime Minister, to attribute the plot to Iranian operatives, particularly the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and to announce new sanctions in response. A joint statement from multiple nations condemned Iran’s involvement, reflecting a united front against its perceived threats to international security.
