Recovery Efforts Underway Following Severe Kona Low Storm in Hawaii

As recovery efforts continue after the Kona low storm passed, multiple schools in Oahu, Hawaii Island, and Molokai were forced to close due to significant storm-related damage. The Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) has announced the closure of 13 schools statewide, with assessments underway to evaluate the extent of the damage. While state offices are set to reopen, three South Kona schools remain closed for cleanup and repair. Konawaena High School has transitioned to distance learning amid ongoing repairs, and nearly 300 damage reports have been filed across the affected schools. Most public schools are expected to reopen soon, although some will remain closed as repairs continue.
