The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a grave warning regarding the worsening global cholera situation, noting that over 400,000 cases have been recorded worldwide. A significant rise in cholera deaths—up by 46 percent—has been reported, with outbreaks impacting 31 countries. Africa is especially hard-hit, prompting the African Union to launch a comprehensive $331 million response plan aimed at eradicating cholera by 2030. New efforts include a continental emergency preparedness and response plan unveiled by African leaders. Concurrently, health officials have addressed common misconceptions about the disease amidst the escalating crisis, which has been fueled by conflict, climate change, and inequality.
