This initiative, part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration, aims to quickly bolster the number of available judges amidst a staffing shortage. Critics, however, have raised concerns about the legality and appropriateness of military personnel overseeing immigration cases, arguing that it may undermine the judicial process and exacerbate existing issues within the immigration system. The Department of Justice (DOJ) is also loosening regulations for hiring temporary judges, allowing individuals without prior immigration experience to fill these critical roles.
