Northrop Grumman and True Anomaly have been awarded contracts to develop military geostationary surveillance and reconnaissance satellites. The U.S. Space Force is advancing its capabilities with new on-orbit tracking technology for both airborne and ground-based targets. As part of this initiative, the Space Force has named its GMTI program and is relying on Northrop Grumman as the prime contractor. The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and Space Systems Command have also awarded prototype contracts for the GHOST-R project, aiming to enhance GEO reconnaissance capabilities. The Pentagon has set a 24-month deadline for a new spy satellite prototype designed for space warfare, reflecting a strong push towards improving space-based radar systems. Additionally, the first Space Surveillance Squadron is being prepared in anticipation of new moving target initiatives.
