The United States Coast Guard has successfully rescued 16 individuals from the Pacific Ocean after a vessel carrying 27 sank off the Baja California coast, near Ensenada. The rescue operation was initiated following a mayday call, and the Coast Guard is currently searching for 11 more people who are reported to be missing. This incident is suspected to be linked to a human smuggling operation, as the boat was traveling along a known route. Among those rescued, one individual was found with a suspected shark bite, adding urgency to the ongoing search efforts.
