US Navy Advances Unmanned Vessel Program with Multiple Contracts and Production Milestones

The US Navy has taken significant steps to enhance its unmanned surface vessel capabilities, awarding contracts for the construction of 30 Medium Uncrewed Surface Vessels (MUSVs) to three Louisiana shipyards in a deal worth $1.2 billion. This follows positive results from at-sea testing. Saronic has also secured a production contract for a 180-foot autonomous surface vessel. Additionally, Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) is moving forward with the construction of 10 ROMULUS unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), further solidifying its partnership with the Navy in unmanned technology. HII reports that the ROMULUS vessels feature autonomous mission control systems and have successfully completed endurance tests. The Navy is now beginning Phase 2 of its drone boat program, aiming to shape the future of maritime operations with these advanced unmanned capabilities.
