Space Force Initiatives for Enhanced Satellite Surveillance and Reconnaissance
The Space Force has announced several significant developments in its satellite surveillance capabilities. Six companies have been selected to provide backup satellite surveillance and participate in the newly established Commercial Reserve Fleet. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance operational readiness, which includes awarding contracts to vendors such as Northrop Grumman and True Anomaly for new orbital reconnaissance satellites. Additionally, the Space Systems Command has granted CASR agreements aimed at establishing a commercial surge capability and has awarded the first operational CASR contracts to the selected vendors. In a bid to further enhance its tracking capabilities, the Space Force has also established a new Target Tracking Squadron dedicated to operating advanced sensing satellites. As the market for in-orbit surveillance opens, companies like Northrop Grumman are emphasizing their extensive experience in this domain.
