In Nepal, search and rescue operations have officially come to an end after a devastating flood disaster that resulted in over 1,400 confirmed deaths and more than 5,200 individuals reported missing, including many foreigners. As the nation grapples with the aftermath, families of the missing are left in a state of uncertainty; some express anger and frustration, while others feel a sense of relief. The government is set to amend legislation allowing for the declaration of missing persons as deceased after 45 days, which may provide closure for affected families. Meanwhile, the focus is shifting towards reconstruction efforts with a projected economic slowdown due to the floods, as the World Bank anticipates growth to decline. Nepal now faces a challenging task in identifying the deceased through DNA analysis and prioritizing job accessibility for flood-affected communities.
