Former President Trump has expressed that he is contemplating the suspension of the federal gas tax as a potential measure to alleviate the financial burden on consumers facing rising fuel prices. This comes in response to calls from lawmakers, including South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds, who is advocating for a temporary gas tax holiday and urging the administration to take action amidst mounting pressure from Republicans. While discussions continue about the feasibility of this proposal, experts note that there may be limited options left for the administration to effectively lower gas prices.
