UN Reports Staggering Levels of Sexual Violence Amid Sudan Civil War

Recent investigations by the UN Mission in Sudan have highlighted a shocking scale of sexual violence occurring during the ongoing civil war. The reports reveal that women, including victims as young as eight and as old as 75, have been subjected to mass rape and other forms of sexual abuse by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies. Activists report that many women in Sudan are resorting to suicide as a desperate measure to escape the horrors of such violence, with over 130 women allegedly taking their own lives in Gezira State alone. The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, exacerbated by the conflict, which has led to widespread displacement and a neglect of urgent needs. The UN condemns these acts, asserting they amount to war crimes and calling for immediate action to address the escalating crisis.
