Rising Concerns Over Smart Home Devices Being Exploited for Cyberattacks
Recent investigations reveal that millions of digital home devices, including smart doorbells and tablets, may be unwittingly powering cyberattacks and operating as part of a cybercrime network. Many of these devices, particularly those sold by major retailers like Amazon and Walmart, are reportedly arriving pre-wired for malicious use. Furthermore, hackers are taking advantage of residential proxy networks to conceal their activities, leading to significant risks for consumers as their home Wi-Fi may be rented out without their consent. Cybersecurity firm Infoblox has found that residential proxy traffic is prevalent within enterprise networks, raising alarm about potential vulnerabilities and the manipulation of substandard devices.
