Recovery Efforts Underway Following Tropical Storm Helene
In the wake of Tropical Storm Helene, communities across Western North Carolina are mobilizing to support those affected. Nonprofits and volunteers remain active in hard-hit areas like Swannanoa, providing critical recovery resources. A-B Tech has opened its doors as a shelter, catering to storm victims with care and support. Buncombe County officials continue to offer updates on recovery efforts, revealing that over 120 individuals have sought refuge at local shelters, including R-S Central High School and the WNC Ag Center, which currently houses 224 people. As Asheville residents navigate the aftermath, numerous distribution sites for water, food, and emergency supplies have been established, alongside hot meal options. Local leaders, including those in Asheville and Buncombe County, are working to restore essential services and assist those in need, while the American Red Cross is setting up additional emergency shelters.
